Academic Connections

When Florida State University (FSU) began its stewardship of The Ringling in 2000, all FSU students gained access to The Ringling’s 66-acre bayfront campus, its collections, and staff expertise. FSU’s College of Fine Arts has two graduate studies programs featuring in-residence internships at The Ringling with oversight by the Associate Director of Academic Affairs + Collections.

Department of Art History | Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies (MCHS)

The Ringling Course is an optional, two-semester (fall-spring) internship at The Ringling allowing admitted graduate students to complete their Master of Art Program in Museum and Cultural Studies (MCHS). MCHS interns rotate through front of house, back of house, and arts administration departments during their fall semester. Fall semester builds foundational skills and introductions to most Ringling operations. During their spring semester, interns complete one or more skills-based projects focused on their own career / academic interests that help propel them to success after graduation. Graduate coursework, professional development, and cultural enrichment are included in The Ringling Course.

Department of Art Education | Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Curation (EC)

Admitted graduate students in FSU’s Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Curation program (M.A and Ph.D) may elect to study at The Ringling for at least one semester. Interns work in the Education Department and complete projects supporting The Ringling’s education and public programming. Interns work with dedicated program professionals within the following program areas: Adults, Youth and Families, School and Teachers, Community Relations and Outreach, and Education and Training.
