This Masterclass will emphasis the Compás of Bulerías de Jerez and Bulerías de Cádiz, the Palmas, and the structure of the Patadas por Bulerías. We will also work on the development of the Flamenco Technique: Flamenco Feet (working on "Tablas de Pies", specific exercises that help improve the sound of our footwork) and we will delve into the work of body style and Flamenco interpretation. Within the class we also work individually to help students achieve their best interpretation of the Patada por Bulerías on stage.

All participants must bring heeled flamenco or character shoes that provide stability for footwork. No open toed, soft soled or ballroom-style dance shoes with fine heels.

About the Instructor

Irene Rodríguez was born in Cuba, and settled recently in Tampa, FL. She is a leading international figure of Spanish dance and Choreography. Praised as “intense, exacting dancer” by the New York Times and awarded with the First Prize at the VIII Certamen Iberoamericano de Coreografía “Alicia Alonso” by the SGAE (Spain). The King of Spain granted her the Order “Isabel La Católica”, Spain's highest civilian honor. Learn more
