Arts and Health

The Ringling is dedicated to a healthy and thriving Sarasota-Manatee community. We partner with local hospitals, healthcare organizations, senior centers, and teaching artists to provide professional development for healthcare professionals, wellbeing programs for the community, and respite programs for individuals undergoing health treatments. Professional Development Programs

This professional development course is offered in a half day workshop, full day workshop, or series of 3-half day workshops depending on your team’s needs. Centered on leadership skills which are crucial but rarely taught such as active listening, effective communication, and cultural humility, Artful Leadership is a training course that leverages the power of art to transform the leadership abilities of your team.

Rooted in Visual Thinking Strategies and promoting observation skills translatable to a clinical environment, this 2-hour workshop takes healthcare teams through a series of activities in the Museum of Art designed to grow observation, tolerance of ambiguity, and effective communication.

Outreach Programs

Aided by an Ohmni Robot, this program transports patients who cannot otherwise physically visit the museum to the viewing art virtually for a 20-30 minute respite tour. These tours are guided by a museum educator in the hospital or care home setting using an iPad in the patient’s room. A second museum educator is accompanied by a robot in the Museum of Art galleries who will provide a custom tour to the patient as the patient drives the robot and engages with works of art.

Take Ringling Reflections to your memory care facility with this outreach program. Each program includes guided looking at a reproduction of a work of art at The Ringling followed by guided art making suitable for individuals with memory loss.

Accessibility Programs

Ringling Reflections programs are relaxed, conversation-based gallery tours in the Museum of Art for people with memory loss and their care partners. Following a 40-minute tour, all tour participants will create their own works of art inspired by artworks in the museum.
